Portugal reveals its final 26-player World Cup team, with two Premier League stars missing out.

Portugal’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is out, and coach Roberto Martinez has made a tough decision by leaving a popular Premier League player off the list.

With the European football season wrapping up soon, teams are getting ready for a busy summer at the World Cup. This year, the tournament will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, kicking off on June 11 at the famous Estadio Azteca in Mexico as they face South Africa in the opening game.

All 48 countries must submit their final 26-player squads by June 1, but some, including France, Croatia, Belgium, and Brazil, have already announced their teams. Brazil’s coach Carlo Ancelotti made headlines by choosing Neymar Jr over one of the Premier League’s top players this season.

Now, Portugal’s coach Roberto Martinez has revealed his squad too. Big names like Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, and Manchester City’s Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva will be there, alongside the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the biggest surprise is that West Ham United’s Matheus Fernandes didn’t make the cut, even though he has had a strong season. The 21-year-old was called up to Portugal for the first time in March but won’t be joining the team this summer.

Matheus Fernandes’ great form has even caught the eye of top clubs like Manchester United, with Bruno Fernandes personally recommending him.

He’s not the only Premier League player missing, as Tottenham’s Joao Palhinha was also left out, despite playing 37 games for Portugal since 2021.
