Liverpool has ‘agreed’ on their first summer transfer deal!

Liverpool have reportedly agreed on their first signing of the summer transfer window.
The Reds will face Brentford at Anfield this Sunday in their last game of the 2025/26 Premier League season. A draw will be enough for Arne Slot’s team to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. They’re currently fifth but can move ahead of Aston Villa if they win and Villa loses to Manchester City. Thanks to England’s UEFA ranking, five teams will earn Champions League spots through the league.
Even so, it’s been a tough second season for Slot. David Ornstein told NBC recently that Liverpool plan to keep him as manager despite the struggles and no trophies this year.
Work has already started on transfers, and one deal is done. Reporter Pipe Sierra says Liverpool have agreed to sign midfielder Samuel Martinez from Colombian club Atletico Nacional for about $1 million (£750,000).
Martinez, a 17-year-old Colombian youth international, mainly plays attacking midfield but can also play deeper. He’s been linked to other big clubs like Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid. But Liverpool beat Dortmund to land him.
Due to FIFA rules for players under 18, Martinez will join Liverpool in 2027 when he turns 18 in April. He’s expected to sign a five-year contract.
Liverpool have also secured Jeremy Jacquet from Ligue 1 side Rennes for £60 million. The deal was done on transfer deadline day in January, with Jacquet staying at Rennes for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, he had surgery in February after a shoulder injury but is set to be ready for Liverpool’s pre-season in July.
Ornstein also shared that Liverpool want to sign two wingers this summer. They sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich last year and haven’t replaced him yet. Mohamed Salah will leave after the season, and there are questions about Federico Chiesa’s future too. Rookie Rio Ngumoha has had some good moments but won’t turn 18 until August.
Liverpool are also linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who scored 12 goals and had eight assists in his first Bundesliga season. However, Bayern Munich also want him, and Leipzig don’t plan to sell this summer. Diomande will be at the World Cup with Ivory Coast, giving Liverpool a chance to watch him more.
BILD reporter Christian Falk says Bayern see Diomande as a dream signing and might try again next summer if he stays at Leipzig. Signing him in Germany would be easier for Bayern than if he moved to the Premier League.
