Liverpool’s top choice to replace Arne Slot is becoming clear, according to the latest odds.
A clear favourite has come forward to take over from Arne Slot at Anfield after the Dutch coach was let go on Saturday, May 30. Liverpool announced Slot’s departure and thanked him for his hard work during his time with the team, which included winning their second Premier League title and their 20th top-flight league overall.
Even though the Reds lifted the Premier League trophy last season, the 2025/26 season was tough. They finished fifth and didn’t win any trophies. Fans also felt the football became less exciting, with many, including Mohamed Salah, hoping for a return to the fast-paced, thrilling “heavy metal football” style seen under Jürgen Klopp, Slot’s predecessor.
In May, Salah shared on social media: “I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.”
Salah also openly criticized Slot at times, like when he was benched for a Premier League game against Leeds United in December.
According to Oddschecker, Andoni Iraola, who recently left Bournemouth, is the favourite to replace Slot, with odds of 1/20. The Spaniard led Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish last season and made sure they played in the Europa League for the first time ever. The 43-year-old has also coached AEK Larnaca, Mirandés, and Rayo Vallecano. He has attracted interest from clubs like Bayer Leverkusen, Crystal Palace, and AC Milan, but a Liverpool offer might be hard to turn down.
Stuttgart’s coach Sebastian Hoeneß is next in line at 5/1 odds. He guided his team to the DFB-Pokal final in 2026 after winning it in 2025 and secured a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga this season.
Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace rounds out the top three, but he’s expected to move to AC Milan soon. He stands at 10/1 odds, just like Lens coach Pierre Sage, who led his Ligue 1 team to second place and won the Coupe de France.
Other contenders and their odds include:
– Luis Enrique — 12/1
– Steven Gerrard — 14/1
– Unai Emery — 16/1
– Julian Nagelsmann — 20/1
– Jürgen Klopp — 20/1
– Xavi — 25/1
– Marco Silva — 25/1
– Simone Inzaghi — 25/1
– Zinedine Zidane — 25/1
– Diego Simeone — 28/1
– Ange Postecoglou — 40/1
– Carlo Ancelotti — 40/1
– Gareth Southgate — 50/1
– Brendan Rodgers — 50/1
– Eddie Howe — 66/1
– Roberto Martínez — 66/1
– Julen Lopetegui — 66/1
– Thomas Tuchel — 66/1
Liverpool released a statement saying, “This was a tough decision for the club. Arne’s contribution to Liverpool has been important and successful. We’re very grateful for all he has done, especially as he worked hard and showed great skill as a leader.
From the start, it was clear that Arne took responsibility seriously. He led the team to a Premier League title in his very first season and faced big challenges in the last season.
But as a club, we believe it’s time for a change to keep moving forward. This decision wasn’t easy, and it doesn’t take away from Arne’s work or talents. It’s about needing a new approach.
Arne will always have a special place in Liverpool’s history as the coach who won their 20th league title. He also helped the club through a very tough time after the loss of Diogo, showing great kindness and humanity.
We wish Arne all the best in his next coaching chapter. His legacy at Liverpool is secure and will be remembered for years to come.
He leaves with our thanks, a Premier League title, and the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcome at Anfield.”
