French Open match delayed because PSG won the Champions League final

Tennis has taken over Paris this week with the French Open starting at Roland Garros, but play was paused after PSG won the Champions League final.

The tournament has already seen some amazing moments, like when favorite Jannik Sinner was surprisingly knocked out by Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who made a stunning comeback. Sinner came into the event on an impressive 30-match winning streak since February, and many thought he’d keep it going.

With Sinner out and two-time champ Carlos Alcaraz also sidelined due to a wrist injury, the competition is wide open. Players like Felix Aliassime and Brandon Nakashima, who aren’t as well-known, now feel they have a real chance to win after seeing what Cerundolo did.

But as Aliassime and Nakashima faced off on Court Philippe-Chatrier, the match had to stop when news came that PSG had just won the Champions League final by beating Arsenal on penalties. Luis Enrique’s team won after Gabriel missed his penalty shot, giving the Ligue 1 champs the trophy.

The crowd at Roland Garros erupted with cheers and chants, and the umpire had to ask everyone to calm down so the tennis match could continue.

Paris will be celebrating late into the night after PSG’s big win, including the tennis fans at Roland Garros, who hope to join the street party once the North American players finish their match.
