A bettor might win an amazing £100k prize because of a surprising decision

Over the weekend, a social media post went viral showing a betting slip that seemed almost too good to be true—and it actually is! The deal sounds simple: guess the winners of six big competitions and win over £100,000 from just a £21.45 bet. For one bettor, this might happen—but there’s a big catch.

Twitter user @LeBro88 shared a photo of a bet his friend placed that could bring in a huge six-figure payout this summer. The bet is pretty clear: pick the winners of the men’s and women’s UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Conference League, and the winners of both the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. But here’s the problem.

The predictions so far: Barcelona Femeni won the women’s Champions League at 1.61 odds, Paris Saint-Germain took the men’s at 7.00, Aston Villa won the Europa League at 5.00, and Crystal Palace claimed the Conference League at 4.00. The bet also picked Spain to win the World Cup at 5.50.

The tricky part is the Africa Cup of Nations winner. The bet backed Morocco at 3.75 odds, but that part of the bet was marked as lost. Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the final back in January, but the match was chaotic—Senegal’s players stopped playing after a late penalty was given. After a delay, they returned, but Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, and Senegal won in extra time.

However, in March, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the win and gave Morocco the victory because Senegal had left the field for 17 minutes, breaking the rules. CAF ruled Senegal broke two key rules saying any team that refuses to play or leaves without permission loses the match 3-0 and is kicked out of the tournament.

This ruling makes the bet confusing. Senegal was the original winner, but now Morocco is officially the champion. The social media user pointed out that if the betting company kept the bet active before the World Cup, the bettor could have cashed out big, even if Spain didn’t win the tournament.
