A former nurse who cared for Michael Schumacher has shared, through her lawyer, how challenging and demanding it was to care for the Formula 1 legend. Schumacher suffered a serious brain injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013. He was rushed to the hospital and placed in a medically induced coma.

The seven-time F1 world champion woke from the coma in June 2014 and was then moved from the hospital to continue his recovery. Since then, updates on Schumacher’s health have been rare, as his family has chosen to keep things private. Only a few people have been allowed to visit him over the years. Reports say he mainly lives in Switzerland but also spends time in Majorca.

Recently, racing driver Joey Mawson went on trial in Switzerland over serious allegations involving a female nurse who worked at Schumacher’s home. It’s claimed that Mawson assaulted the nurse twice while she was unconscious after a party in November 2019. Mawson says the incident was consensual, but the nurse denies this. The Schumacher family was not involved and was not at the property during the incident.

Mawson, 30, is from Sydney, Australia, and has raced in various motorsport events like Formula 3 and the Porsche Supercup. He has also competed in the Bathurst 12 Hours race. Mawson is currently serving a three-year ban from racing after failing a drugs test because of a fitness supplement. His ban is due to end in May this year.

At the trial’s start on Tuesday, the nurse’s lawyer described her work with Schumacher’s family as very demanding, both physically and emotionally. The lawyer said, “There is a culture of silence around this family, which is understandable. But for employees, who can’t even talk about their day-to-day lives with friends, the pressure is huge. She did her job with great care and dedication, taking on the toughest tasks and helping out wherever she was needed.”

We learned that the nurse stopped working for the family in 2020. The court is expected to give its decision on Friday, June 5.
