Man Utd reach final decision on Marcus Rashford transfer as Premier League clubs show interest

Manchester United have made a final decision about Marcus Rashford’s future, according to reports.
Rashford is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona, which ends on June 30. The 28-year-old has scored 14 goals and made 10 assists in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s team, helping them win the La Liga title. His great form earned him a spot back in the England squad, and he’s now part of the 26-man group chosen by Thomas Tuchel for the World Cup.
But after June, his future is still unclear. Barcelona signed Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon for about £75 million even before the transfer window opened, hinting that Rashford might be moving on.
However, Spanish outlet Sport says the situation is a bit more complicated. They report that Barcelona haven’t completely ruled out signing Rashford permanently. It depends on whether they can sell some players and sign a new striker. The club is linked to Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, but Atletico’s public complaints about how Barcelona handled this have caused problems for Barca.
Sport adds that Rashford returning to Manchester United now seems unlikely. From United’s side, the same source says they are open to a deal that would let Barcelona pay less than the €30 million buy option. United originally wanted the full buyout fee, but now understand Rashford really wants to stay in Spain and isn’t interested in other offers. This shows that United would rather he goes to Barcelona than joins a Premier League rival.
Earlier this week, the i Paper reported that up to five clubs, including Premier League teams Newcastle and Aston Villa, are keeping an eye on Rashford. If he joins Newcastle, he would essentially replace Anthony Gordon. Rashford also played for Aston Villa on loan during the second half of the 2024/25 season under Unai Emery. Villa have qualified for the Champions League, both by finishing fourth in the Premier League and by winning the Europa League. Due to UEFA’s system, Sporting Lisbon got the Europa League group stage spot instead of Villa.
When Rashford found out he’d been selected for England’s World Cup squad, he thanked his coaches Unai Emery, Hansi Flick, and Thomas Tuchel for helping him get back into the team. On Instagram, he said, “Special thanks to Unai, Hansi, Thomas, Aston Villa, Barcelona and England for believing in me when things got tough.” He later added on Twitter that his message wasn’t a jab at anyone and that he’s still a Manchester United supporter. He just wanted to show gratitude to the clubs and coaches who played a big part in his call-up over the past 18 months.
