Ederson’s move to Man Utd is on hold as he gets called up for the World Cup after his injury.

Manchester United’s plans to sign Ederson might take a little longer because the midfielder just got a last-minute call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad.
The 26-year-old, who is expected to join United this summer for £35 million plus £4 million in add-ons, was originally left out of coach Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man team, even though he was on the preliminary list. After a great season with Atalanta in Serie A, many people were surprised he didn’t make the initial cut.
Then, on Sunday night, it was confirmed that Ederson would replace Wesley, who got injured only 15 minutes into a friendly against Egypt. Brazil’s Football Confederation (CBF) said Wesley won’t play in the tournament due to a thigh muscle injury.
Ederson is set to join his Brazil teammates on Monday as they prepare for their first match against Morocco on June 13.
Manchester United fans will have to be patient since Ederson’s summer plans have changed because of the call-up. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ederson will still sign for United this summer, but the deal might not be official until July—and could be delayed further if Brazil goes far in the World Cup. The club had hoped to finish the signing sooner, says the Standard.
Lots of people think United made a smart move going after Ederson. Former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who played against him when Atalanta faced AC Milan, said to Sky Sports, “He’ll do just fine. He’s very physical, quick, strong, and good on the ball. I think he’ll be great for the team.”
So what can Ederson bring to Michael Carrick’s midfield after Casemiro left? He’s flexible but usually plays as a deep-lying midfielder and can also move forward as a No. 8.
After signing for Atalanta in 2022, Ederson said, “My strengths are keeping the ball and my strength. I can play both defensive and attacking football. I like finding space to attack.”
