Lewis Hamilton takes a sharp jab at F1 rivals before the Barcelona Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton fired back at his F1 critics by pointing out why they’ve never won a world championship—and why he’s won seven.
The 41-year-old is enjoying his best start to a season since 2021 and is currently second in the standings, just behind the leader, Kimi Antonelli. Hamilton has earned 90 points from the first six races, including three times on the podium.
This is the first time since the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that Hamilton has been this high in the rankings. He’s feeling refreshed in his car, which he helped to develop. He played a big role in redesigning the steering wheel and pushed for changes in the braking system.
Hamilton hopes to keep up his strong performance at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix this weekend and prove the doubters wrong about whether he can still compete at the top level.
Talking about his great start, Hamilton said this year feels different and pointed to his seven world titles as proof he knows what it takes to win. “I’m fitter, healthier, and in a better place personally,” he told Sky Sports F1. “I’ve come in with a better attitude than last year, and I have no injuries.
“I’m driving a car I helped develop, instead of inheriting one like last year, and this new era is one I really prefer. It’s a mix of things. I’m just happy in life, and experience helps, too. Some people who haven’t won a championship might say things, but there’s a reason why I have seven titles—I know what it takes to win.
“I know what it takes for a team to win, and many people I work with have also won championships before. My main goal is to help them and myself get to where we believe we can and deserve to be.”
Right now, Sky has a special offer for existing Sky TV customers to add the Sky Sports F1 channel for just £15 a month, with a 31-day rolling contract. The races are coming fast and furious as F1 heads to Europe, with the Barcelona and Austrian GPs later this month. Then it’s off to Silverstone for the exciting British GP on July 5, followed by trips to Belgium and Hungary.
And it’s not just about the races. Sky Sports F1 is the only place to watch every F1 practice and qualifying session live. You’ll also get behind-the-scenes access, exclusive interviews, and top-notch analysis on race weekends and in shows like The Notebook with Ted Kravitz and The F1 Show.
