Ruben Amorim shares strange comment about a plane crash on the 25th anniversary of 9/11
Ruben Amorim made an unusual and unfortunate comment about plane crashes on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The AC Milan coach was speaking at a press conference before his team’s game against Lazio. Milan, still unbeaten, is currently fifth in Serie A with three points from their first three matches this season.
During the press conference, Amorim was trying to stress how important it is for his team to learn and improve in every training session. However, he used an analogy about plane crashes that didn’t come across well.
A video of the moment quickly spread online, showing Amorim realizing his mistake, especially since it was the 25th anniversary of the tragic attacks in the US when four planes were hijacked — two hit the Twin Towers, one hit the Pentagon, and another crashed in Pennsylvania, causing nearly 3,000 deaths.
He said, “We have to get better during every training session. It’s just like with plane crashes. That’s where you learn… This is not a good comparison.”
Amorim gave a nervous laugh, then added, “But you understand what I mean. If something goes wrong, we take in all the information and work on it in training.”
One video of this moment got nearly seven million views on X. So far, neither Amorim nor AC Milan have made a statement about it.
Amorim is known for making strong statements in press conferences, like during his tough time managing Manchester United.
At his latest media talk in Milan, Amorim also shared his unique coaching style and spoke about Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas, who used to play for Arsenal and Barcelona, took Como to the Champions League for the first time in his debut season as a coach and got lots of praise for his team’s style.
Como recently beat RB Leipzig 4-1 in their first Champions League match, but Amorim made it clear that his Milan team plays differently.
He said, “If you want a team that plays like Como, you need to hire Como’s coach. I’m completely different. I have my own style and way of playing. We’re at different clubs. I’m focused on winning games and playing the way I believe is right. I want to learn from other managers, but I don’t copy them.”
Also, Amorim confirmed that US national team player Christian Pulisic will finally get some playing time at the Stadio Olimpico after not featuring yet this season.
“You’ll see Pulisic tomorrow,” he said. “He’s going to get some minutes now. I like Pulisic. He’s been upset because he hasn’t played, and I understand that. He’s ready to play, especially after his injury. He’s really important to the team.”
