Gianni Infantino shared what role Donald Trump will have during the trophy ceremony at the World Cup final on July 19 in New Jersey. The FIFA president spoke on Fox News and explained what the U.S. president will be doing at the big game.

So far, Trump hasn’t been seen at any World Cup matches, even though the U.S. team has won both of their games in this home tournament. He missed the first match, when the U.S. beat Paraguay 4-1, because he was getting ready to join the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

Trump is expected to show up only for the final, where he will play a big part, according to Infantino. The FIFA president said, “We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together.”

That means Trump will help give the trophy to the winning team and join in the celebrations — similar to when he took part in the Club World Cup award ceremony with Chelsea last summer. This is a bit different from recent tournaments, where leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin or Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani didn’t take part in the trophy presentations in 2018 or 2022.

Infantino thinks it makes sense for the holder of the FIFA Peace Prize to present the World Cup trophy. Right now, that honor belongs to Trump, who was the first person to receive the award back in December.
