Man City faces new Premier League rule issue after 3-0 win over Liverpool

Manchester City broke a Premier League rule by not letting Enzo Maresca talk to radio stations right after their 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

This was their first game since being found guilty of breaking financial rules, but the team focused on football, beating Liverpool with a strong three-goal win. Erling Haaland scored early after Ryan Gravenberch was controversially sent off, and then Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki added two great goals to keep City’s perfect record.

Coming up next, Man City will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday (October 14). Before that, it was revealed that the club may have broken Premier League rule K.207 by stopping Maresca from speaking to talkSPORT and BBC Radio 5 Live. This rule says that clubs must allow radio broadcasters to interview at least one key player and the manager after a match.

City didn’t say why they made this choice, but Maresca did speak to Sky Sports and other media during his post-match conference. He mainly talked about the ongoing investigation, as City appealed the guilty verdict on October 1. Their appeal will be heard by a new panel in mid-December.

“I’ve said many times, I’m calm and relaxed. I stress a lot about our game plan and training, not about things I can’t control,” Maresca told Sky Sports after the game. “We know how serious this situation is, but the only thing we can control is what happens on the pitch. There’s a lot of noise around the team, but we need to focus on making our own noise by winning games.”

City was found guilty of serious financial rule breaks, including ‘sham’ contracts that saved about £900 million between 2009 and 2018, during which they won three Premier League titles. Possible punishments include game suspensions, point deductions, replays, expulsion, fines, being relegated, or even losing their titles.

Man City insists they are innocent and says they have strong evidence to prove it. When asked about the team’s reaction to the guilty verdict, Ruben Dias said, “When it broke, we talked as soon as we got back. We all needed to be clear and calm. Even though it happened when we were apart, we reached out to each other quickly and found peace of mind. Then we moved on.”
