Romelu Lukaku steps in to calm down a heated fight between teammates as Belgium pulls off an amazing World Cup comeback.
Senegal looked like they had the win in the bag against Belgium, leading 2-0 with just a few minutes left. But Belgium shocked everyone by scoring two late goals to push the game into extra time, and then they sealed the comeback with a penalty during stoppage time.
Senegal must be feeling really disappointed since they were clearly the better team for most of the match. Belgium seemed to lose focus in the final minutes, with players getting frustrated and even arguing with each other. It took Romelu Lukaku stepping in to calm things down, helping the team pull themselves together for an amazing comeback.
Lukaku had to break up a heated argument between captain Youri Tielemans and Leandro Trossard, who then became key players in Belgium’s fight back. Lukaku scored their first goal in the 86th minute, and shortly after, Trossard set up Tielemans for the equalizer with a perfect cross.
Belgium’s win came in dramatic and controversial fashion when they were given a penalty in the last minutes of extra time after Lamine Camara made contact with Tielemans in the box. The referee checked with VAR before awarding the penalty, which led to a tense moment as Senegal players tried to block the shot. After a long seven-minute delay, Tielemans stepped up and calmly sent the ball into the top corner, winning it for Belgium.
Now, Belgium will face either the United States or Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup round of 16.
