Good news for Mohamed Salah! Egypt’s coach just gave an update on his injury before the big game against Australia.

Egypt’s national team coach, Hossam Hassan, shared some hopeful news about Mohamed Salah’s injury as the Pharaohs get ready to face Australia. Salah, who used to play for Liverpool, has had a great World Cup so far, especially after a tough club season under former coach Arne Slot with the Reds in 2025/26.

Salah kicked off the World Cup with an assist in Egypt’s 1-1 draw against Belgium. Then, he shined again by scoring a goal, providing another assist, and earning Man of the Match in Egypt’s 3-1 win over New Zealand. That victory was a big moment—it was Egypt’s first-ever World Cup win! Even though they’ve only qualified three times, Egypt holds the record for the most Africa Cup of Nations titles.

With those results, Egypt made it to the Round of 32 and is set to play Australia at 7pm BST. But things got a bit worrying when Salah had to leave the last group game against Iran due to injury. He struggled with injuries toward the end of last season but managed to play his farewell game for Liverpool, even assisting a goal in a 1-1 draw.

Salah was seen on the bench against Iran, icing his left leg, and there were reports he might play against Australia even if he wasn’t 100%. However, Coach Hassan gave a hopeful update, saying he won’t let Egypt’s captain start unless he’s truly ready.

Hossam Hassan isn’t just the coach—he’s also Egypt’s top scorer ever with 69 goals, just one away from Salah’s total. He told beIN SPORTS, “Salah is part of the team. We were surprised too, but he’s had intensive treatment. The medical team worked hard, and Salah was very motivated. He trained with the first team for the first time since the Iran game yesterday, joined our latest session today, and is doing well. I hope he’ll be ready and ready to fight.”

On the other side, Australia’s coach Tony Popovic was asked about Salah’s possible absence or presence, and he said his team is ready for either case. “I expect the game to be even tougher since it’s a knockout, and we respect Egypt,” Popovic said. “But I believe we can play better, and tomorrow is our chance to do that. If we perform well, we could make history.”

When asked if Salah might start or come off the bench, Popovic said, “We have prepared for both scenarios.”
