Jayden Adams’ partner shares a message after the sad loss of the South African player
The partner of South African footballer Jayden Adams has shared a heartfelt tribute after his tragic passing. Adams, who played in all three of South Africa’s group games at the 2026 World Cup, was found dead at a home in Schotschekloof, a neighborhood in central Cape Town, on the morning of June 11.
The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) announced his “untimely passing,” while police continue investigating the circumstances around the 25-year-old’s death. Many tributes have come in for Adams, with SAFPU calling him a “gifted player, a proud servant of the game, and a young life that still had so much to offer.”
On Saturday, his longtime partner Aqueelah Chloe Adendorf posted pictures of them together on Instagram. She wrote, “There are no words to explain the pain I’m feeling. Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not just the love of my life but my biggest supporter and best friend. A part of my heart left with you, and I will carry your love always. Until we meet again, I’ll miss you every day. Rest easy, my angel. I love you forever.”
Adendorf and Adams shared a five-year-old daughter, and she also thanked everyone for their kind messages and support. “They mean so much to me and Allaïa during this tough time,” she said. “I appreciate every message, even if I haven’t replied yet. I’ll get back to everyone as soon as I can. Thank you for your understanding and kindness.”
Before the World Cup opener, Adendorf posted a loving message for Adams. “Good luck at the World Cup, my love. I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve worked for. Go out there, enjoy every moment, and show the world what you can do. No matter what, I’ll always be your biggest fan. Wishing you success, confidence, and an amazing tournament. I love you and can’t wait to cheer you on!”
Adams had moved last summer from his first club, Stellenbosch, to Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria. Since making his South Africa debut in 2024, he became a key player for the national team and made a strong impact both on and off the field. He earned his World Cup spot after shining in the Betway Premiership, playing 37 matches and contributing to three goals in all competitions.
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, shared his condolences on Saturday. “I am deeply shocked and saddened by Jayden’s passing,” he said. “South African football loses one of its brightest young stars. We mourn with his family, teammates, and the many fans who saw him grow from a promising young player into a full Bafana Bafana international.”
McKenzie asked the media and public to be respectful and avoid speculation, giving Adams’ family and club privacy during this hard time. “Any official updates will come from the right people when the time is right.”
He also recalled reaching out to Adams after the player’s grandmother passed away just before a match in June. “Jayden’s humble and thankful response meant a lot to me. The fact he chose to wear the national jersey and give his best for his country in such a tough moment shows incredible character and professionalism well beyond his years. It shows the kind of young man South Africa has lost.”
