A video of Jeremy Jacquet’s Liverpool debut against Como is going viral.
A highlight reel of Jeremy Jacquet’s much-awaited Liverpool debut has been buzzing on social media, with fans excitedly sharing their thoughts on his almost perfect performance.
The 21-year-old defender, seen as one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs, joined Liverpool from Rennes for £60 million at the start of July.
Jacquet missed the second half of last season because of a knee injury he got while recovering from a shoulder problem. He also didn’t play in recent friendlies against Wrexham, Leeds United, and Monaco.
But after working hard to get back in shape for the new season, Jacquet finally made his unofficial debut on Sunday, playing 45 minutes against Cesc Fabregas’ Como.
It was a special day for him—fans started chanting “Ooooooh Jeremy Jacquet” just 16 minutes into the game. He was Liverpool’s best player in their 2-0 win, showing calmness on the ball alongside Virgil van Dijk and great speed when defending one-on-one.
The French under-21 international even scored just before halftime, adding to his impressive debut.
Fans praised him a lot, with one saying, “One of the most impressive debuts I’ve seen in a long time; winning duels, reading the game easily, smooth on the ball. A physical beast who always looks comfortable.”
Another wrote, “We really found a gem in Jeremy Jacquet,” and a third said, “Jeremy had the best first half I’ve ever seen in a debut game. Amazing.”
One more added, “I can’t remember a Liverpool debutant making such a strong impression in their first 45 minutes. If this is a sign of what’s next, Jeremy Jacquet has no limits. He will be worth every penny.”
Jacquet, now the tenth most expensive French player ever, believes he has what it takes to succeed at Anfield, even though he only made 31 appearances for Rennes.
Iraola, a coach, is sure Jacquet can make an impact right away. “I knew Jeremy well before he signed for Liverpool,” he said last month. “He’s still young but has everything we need for that position. He was dealing with a shoulder injury last season but is fully healed now and has been training with the under-21s. He’s ready to start strong.”
