Alex Hunter, the popular character from FIFA’s The Journey series, is making a comeback in the new open-world mode called ‘The Grounds’ on EA FC 27, according to reports online.

It’s been almost ten years since EA Sports first introduced The Journey, a story mode that followed Hunter from playing in Clapham Common’s under-11 team all the way to the Premier League and beyond.

The story started with a penalty shootout on a muddy pitch in southwest London, then jumped ahead seven years to a trial at the National Football Academy. There, Alex and his best friend—and later rival—Gareth Walker competed to impress Premier League scouts. The story continued until FIFA 19, where the three-part series ended unexpectedly.

Now, after eight years away, Hunter is set to return to EA’s main game, according to reliable sources on X, like Donk and Fut Sheriff. Fut Sheriff shared, “Major breaking: Alex Hunter is back in FC 27. He will be part of ‘The Grounds’, EA FC 27 open world.”

‘The Grounds’ is an open-world multiplayer mode where you can explore a whole city, visit barbershops, clothes stores, gyms, and more, as reported by WhatsGaming. People also think you’ll be able to play street games to build and level up your player’s reputation.

Cam Weber, EA’s president, has talked about what we can expect from this virtual playground, similar to those in games like NBA 2K.

“Our teams are working hard on new projects,” Weber said at a 2024 summit. “They’re creating unique new experiences—virtual open-world spaces where you, your friends, and the community can come together for avatar-based play, both competitive and casual. These experiences focus on creativity, connection, self-expression, and exciting gameplay.”

He added that there will be different experiences for FC and their American football games but didn’t share many details yet.

According to Esports News, the open-world mode will include online districts based on some of the biggest football countries, like France, Argentina, and the UK.

It sounds like fans have a lot to look forward to with Alex Hunter’s return and the exciting new world in EA FC 27!
