Alvaro Morata’s introduction at Leganes might just be one of the most memorable for all the wrong reasons in football history.
Alvaro Morata joined Leganes in Spain’s second division this Friday on a one-year loan from Como, and his presentation quickly caught everyone’s attention online.
The Spanish striker, who is signed with the Serie A club until June 2029, had interest from several La Liga and Liga MX teams over the summer.
Leganes were relegated from Spain’s top league in the 2024-25 season and are now in their second year trying to move back up.
Over the past three seasons, Morata has played for four clubs: Turkish champions Galatasaray, Italian giants AC Milan, and Como.
He first joined Como on a one-season loan from AC Milan, scoring just one goal in 30 games last year, as Cesc Fabregas’ team chased a spot in European tournaments.
Como finished fourth, earning Champions League qualification by beating AC Milan, who ended fifth.
This summer, Morata signed permanently with Como but immediately went out on loan to Leganes for another season. At his launch event with Leganes, a funny moment went viral.
While saying hello to fans, Morata tried to impress with some keepy-uppies, a common trick at presentations. He laughed after a nice first attempt at an “around-the-world” move but then quickly missed the next one when the ball slipped off his foot.
He chased the ball down and tried again, managing two successful spins before the ball stuck under his heel and dropped. This time, he wasn’t laughing as much and switched back to simple keepy-uppies.
When he tried one more trick, he lost control of the ball right away and had to walk after it slowly.
Even with the funny moments, Morata is said to be happy and comfortable at Leganes, as he looked all summer for a chance to come back to Madrid.
According to ESPN, the 33-year-old wanted to return home. So far in his career, Morata has been part of transfers totaling about €212 million, making him the Spanish player who has raised the most money in transfers ever, according to Transfermarkt.
