Arsenal player is ‘telling Barcelona he’s ready to join’ every day just before the Premier League season starts.
Arsenal might see some players leave before the transfer window closes, and it’s come out that one of their stars has been trying to join Barcelona every day.
After winning their first Premier League title since 2004, the Gunners have been busy signing new players to make their team stronger. Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis joined for a total of £120 million, and Piero Hincapie’s loan from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent. They also signed Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa for £50 million, adding more strength to their defense.
But to balance the squad, some players will likely leave. Names like Gabriel Martinelli, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Martin Zubimendi have been linked with moves away.
Interestingly, striker Viktor Gyokeres has been offering himself to Barcelona on a daily basis. He joined Arsenal just last summer from Sporting CP for £55 million, becoming the new striker for the team. He scored 21 goals in his first season but often played second fiddle to Kai Havertz, especially in big games.
Havertz was chosen to start in the recent Community Shield win over Manchester City and seems to be Mikel Arteta’s first pick up front. Because of this, Gyokeres could end up as the backup striker. Journalist Victor Navarro says Gyokeres is open to moving to Barcelona, who desperately need a new No.9 after Robert Lewandowski left and Ferran Torres moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona’s top target seemed to be Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid isn’t willing to sell him. They’re also interested in Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, Sporting striker Luis Suarez, and Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge. Still, Gyokeres might be an easier option for them.
Navarro shared on X: “Lautaro Martínez is the club’s number one option for Barca. Yesterday, the club heard again that Gil Marín is blocking Julián Álvarez. Gyokeres is offering himself to Barça daily. Tresoldi is also very well liked at FCB.”
Arsenal will start their Premier League title defense with a match against newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates this Friday.
