Andoni Iraola’s next transfer plans are out, along with a new update on Djed Spence’s move to Liverpool!
Liverpool is expected to sign a centre-back once deals for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye are wrapped up, and there’s also an update on Djed Spence.
This summer, Liverpool has already brought in Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, but the transfer activity is far from over. The club is keen on Paris Saint-Germain wingers Barcola and Mbaye. Barcola has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, but talks between the clubs are still going on, with PSG asking for £146 million for the France international. Liverpool is reportedly ready to pay PSG’s £43 million asking price for Mbaye, who plays on the right wing, while Barcola is more comfortable on the left.
Although Liverpool wants to strengthen their attack, they’ve run into a defensive injury problem during pre-season. Fans want the club to sign a right-back to support Jeremie Frimpong while Conor Bradley recovers from injury. After Joe Gomez suffered a muscle injury earlier in pre-season, team captain Virgil van Dijk is currently the only fit centre-back, as Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are both sidelined. However, Jacquet should be back in the next few weeks.
Recently, Tottenham’s right-back Djed Spence has been linked with a move to Liverpool. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on his YouTube channel on August 7 that he hasn’t heard of any real progress on this deal but promised to update if anything happens. Romano also mentioned that Liverpool might look to add another centre-back before the transfer window closes.
Reports from TEAMtalk say Liverpool is interested in Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa, who is also being watched by Arsenal because of his ability to play both centre-back and right-back. There’s also talk about Liverpool potentially re-signing Jarell Quansah, although his £70 million buy-back clause won’t be active until 2027. Other names linked with Liverpool include former Chelsea and current AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.
