AngryGinge shares a sad update after his mum’s house caught fire on the day of Soccer Aid.

AngryGinge recently opened up about how close his mum came to being trapped when her house caught fire just before Soccer Aid. He played for England in the match and earned his second Player of the Match award in a row at Wembley.

Even though he got the devastating news on the morning of the game that his mum Michelle’s house was burning, he still went on to play. Morgan Burtwistle, known as AngryGinge, shared a video from what looked like the front room of the burnt house on Instagram, saying it wasn’t even the worst of the damage.

In a live Twitch stream on Wednesday, Ginge explained that his mum wasn’t home during the fire but sadly her pets didn’t survive. “The main thing is my mum’s okay, and that’s what matters most,” he said. “But the fire brigade told me something shocking — if she had been in the house, she probably wouldn’t have made it out.”

He added that right after getting the news, he called Soccer Aid to let them know he wouldn’t make the briefing. “Luckily, she was in London for Soccer Aid, so that’s a huge relief. The fire was really bad.”

That day, Ginge helped England beat the World XI 3-2 in the charity match at Wembley. He played with former England stars like Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott, Jermain Defoe, Jill Scott, and Toni Duggan. Celebrities such as Jack Whitehall, Olly Murs, Danny Dyer, GK Barry, and Tom Hiddleston also joined in for the event, which supports the children’s charity UNICEF.
