Another Premier League manager might get fired before Michael Carrick, with Sean Dyche expected to take over.
Crystal Palace are reportedly looking for an experienced Premier League head coach to replace Pierre Sage after another disappointing loss to Newcastle.
While there’s been lots of talk about managers this weekend, Crystal Palace’s struggles have mostly gone unnoticed.
Michael Carrick has been in the spotlight as Manchester United’s poor form has put him under pressure.
But Palace, who have won just once in their last eight games and have been leaking goals, are said to be ready to say goodbye to their new boss, Pierre Sage.
Sage took charge this year after success with Lyon and Lens in Ligue 1, but he’s already lost five of his first Premier League matches.
Their only win came against Nottingham Forest, coached by former Palace boss Oliver Glasner, which was a surprise to many.
After another defeat, Sage tried to calm things down and said he still has the support of the club’s leaders.
“Yes, I think they back me,” he said when asked about his relationship with the board.
“It’s normal to feel pressure because we don’t have the results. The noise comes from the team not getting the points we want.
For me, the noise around the club is just noise. I spoke with the chairman this week, but not about this topic.
We talked about the game, the team’s condition, and how to plan for today’s match. I shared my strategy with him and the technical staff. It’s normal.”
However, reports say Sean Dyche could be next in line if Palace decide to part ways with Sage.
The Telegraph reports Dyche, who has been out of coaching since a short spell at Nottingham Forest last year, is the favorite to take over.
Lately, he’s been working as a TV pundit but is now the top candidate, ahead of Thomas Frank, Robbie Keane, and Eddie Howe (who is more linked to a potential Old Trafford job).
Palace fans haven’t reacted well to the news, with many saying it feels like a step backward.
“If we get Dyche, I honestly hope Palace get relegated. What’s happened to this club in just a few months?” one fan wrote.
Another said, “We had a Europa League-winning manager who won 3 titles in two seasons, and now the best we can do is Sean Dyche? This is run by absolute clowns if true.”
With the worst defensive record in the league this year and players like Dwight McNeil and Jean-Philippe Mateta who prefer direct attacking, some think Dyche might be just what Palace need.
Dyche’s style, often called ‘Dycheball,’ has had mixed results in the Premier League but has made him a kind of modern ‘saviour,’ much like Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis before him.
If it’s not Palace, Dyche could still be managing by Halloween, as Burnley also need a new manager.
