Antonio Conte shares update on taking over from Michael Carrick at Manchester United
Antonio Conte has shared that he isn’t currently in advanced talks with any club, despite rumors linking him to Manchester United as a possible replacement for Michael Carrick. While he hasn’t completely ruled out the idea of managing at Old Trafford, he wants to take his time before making any decisions.
Conte is one of several managers mentioned as potential successors if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, who oversee United’s football side, decide to replace Carrick. Carrick has faced increased pressure after United’s 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League, and some reports from Italy suggested Conte met with United officials after the game. Conte has now responded to those stories.
“My name has been connected to many clubs, but there are no advanced talks right now,” Conte said in a statement on his official Instagram. “After a great and successful time leading Napoli, I’ll take my time to think carefully about when and how I want to return to coaching. It will be a decision made only when the conditions feel right.”
He also addressed rumors about making big financial demands or insisting on full control, as well as concerns about his ‘strong personality,’ calling those stories untrue since nothing concrete has been discussed. “If a real opportunity comes up, that will be the time to talk with the club and work out terms that respect both sides, and the way I manage,” Conte added.
“Until then, any guesses about my demands or future are just speculation and shouldn’t be taken as fact.”
