Arne Slot’s future takes a surprising turn just days after Liverpool let him go

Arne Slot’s future has taken an unexpected turn after he was linked to a big job soon after being let go by Liverpool. Slot, who helped Liverpool win the Premier League title in 2025, was dismissed on May 30 after a disappointing second season. The Reds finished fifth and didn’t win any trophies last year.

He has since been replaced by Andoni Iraola, the former Bournemouth coach, whose arrival was announced by Liverpool on Thursday, June 4. Meanwhile, Slot is already being linked to a quick return to coaching, with reports saying he’s a top contender to replace Marco Silva at Fulham.

There’s also talk he could become the next manager of the Dutch national team if Ronald Koeman steps down after the World Cup. Koeman has been in charge since 2023 and his contract will end after the tournament.

The 47-year-old was also considered a candidate to replace Massimiliano Allegri at AC Milan. Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri said talks had started between Slot and the Serie A club.

Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan shared that Liverpool’s decision to sack Slot came as a surprise to him, as he “strongly believed” he would stay on next season. Van der Kraan mentioned that Slot would be very interested in managing the Dutch national team.

“If Ronald Koeman leaves after the World Cup, the Dutch team will have a vacancy,” Van der Kraan said. “I think Arne Slot would be perfect for that job. He plays Dutch football – passing, attacking style, whatever you want to call it. People in the Netherlands would be happy to have him.”

However, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio said Slot wants to “carefully think” about his next move and noted that joining AC Milan now seems unlikely. Other names like former Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner and US team boss Mauricio Pochettino are still linked to the Milan role.

AC Milan finished fifth in Serie A last season and missed out on the Champions League for the second year in a row.

Before this, Slot managed Dutch clubs Cambuur, AZ, and Feyenoord.
