Arsenal called the ‘only way out’ for Mikel Arteta’s top summer target
Arsenal aren’t planning to take a break after winning the Premier League and making it to the Champions League final last season. The team has high goals for their summer signings, and making their strong squad even better won’t be cheap or easy.
Julian Alvarez, the former Manchester City striker and World Cup winner, is one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets. But he’s also wanted by teams in Spain. As Arsenal gets ready to compete on four fronts again in the 2026-27 season, their sporting director Andrea Berti will play a big role. Berti used to work at Atletico Madrid and helped bring Alvarez to Spain. He’s been interested in bringing Alvarez back to the Premier League for a while.
Last summer, Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres to boost their attack. This summer, they might add even more firepower, despite competition from Barcelona. Alvarez’s name was also mentioned during the Real Madrid presidential election, after the club reportedly made a big offer that Atletico quickly turned down.
With Barcelona and Real Madrid stepping back, Arsenal could have the edge as Alvarez’s best chance to move from La Liga. According to AS, Atletico Madrid will fiercely protect their interests and won’t make it easy to lose Alvarez. But it seems likely Alvarez won’t stay at Atletico, even if the club wants to keep him.
AS also says Barcelona won’t raise their best offer, and Real Madrid’s attempts were mocked by Atletico Madrid on social media. Atletico posted a playful message pointing out they never seriously considered Real’s offer and joked about their rivalry with both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
