Arsenal star told he’s now a regular starter under Mikel Arteta after tough game against Brighton
Arsenal faced their first loss of the season, going down 3-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League. But even with the tough result, one player’s reputation actually grew stronger.
This defeat stopped Mikel Arteta’s team from matching their club record of eight wins from the season’s start—a record that’s stood since 1903/04. It also meant they dropped to second place in the league.
The team didn’t play well, and the players had a hard time on the pitch. Yet, after the game, many fans said one player is just too important to leave out.
Brighton took a 2-0 lead by halftime with amazing goals from Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas. Chema Andres added a third goal, securing all three points and helping Brighton move up to third in the table.
Before the game, Arteta made two changes to the team that beat Sunderland. Bruno Guimaraes started his first Premier League match for Arsenal, coming in for Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Jurrien Timber replaced Ben White.
Some fans think replacing Lewis-Skelly was a big mistake. One supporter said, “Lewis-Skelly might actually be undroppable.” Another added, “Tell Arteta, never bench Myles Lewis-Skelly again.” A third fan shared more detailed thoughts, saying that Ben White’s attacking skills are often overlooked and players like Saka and Odegaard don’t look as sharp without him. He also felt that Guimaraes seemed lost on the field and should come off the bench until he fully understands the game plan, while Lewis-Skelly should keep starting.
Before the season started, there were talks that Lewis-Skelly might leave the club, with Manchester United interested. But he stayed, despite the arrival of Guimaraes after a long transfer deal.
Lewis-Skelly has had a great start to the season, proving those transfer rumors wrong. At just 19, he has played six times in all competitions and has been very important in midfield.
He started the last four Premier League games but has seen his minutes slowly reduced. He also started a recent Carabao Cup game against Ipswich Town, and maybe Arteta was giving him a rest after a busy start to the season.
Still, fans have made it clear on social media that they want to see Lewis-Skelly start every game from now on.
