Barcelona’s big exit news could set off a chain reaction for Marcus Rashford’s transfer.
Marcus Rashford might still join Barcelona this summer because one of their star players could be heading to Saudi Arabia.
Rashford is in the US right now, getting ready for England’s next World Cup game against Ghana on June 23. But that hasn’t stopped talks about where he’ll be playing after the tournament.
Last season, Rashford had a great loan spell at Barca, scoring 14 goals and making 14 assists in 49 games. He helped them win the Spanish league, but Barcelona decided not to activate the £26 million option to buy him permanently.
Instead, Barca signed his England teammate Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for £70 million, giving him a five-year contract. Since both Gordon and Rashford play on the left side—and Barca’s vice-captain Raphinha also plays there—it seemed unlikely Rashford would stay.
But things might be changing. Raphinha is now linked to a surprise move to Saudi Arabia. After he got a hamstring injury playing for Brazil on June 20, Barcelona might look to make some changes this summer.
Raphinha has scored 75 goals and made 59 assists in 177 games for Barca since joining from Leeds in 2022. Although he’s been important to the team, expert Terry Gibson thinks he could leave soon.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Gibson said he believes Barca might try to bring Rashford back on loan for a cheaper deal. He was surprised by the Gordon signing but thinks Raphinha’s injuries and the big offer from Saudi Arabia could lead to a transfer. Selling Raphinha could also help Barca pay for Gordon.
So, Gibson thinks it’s possible that both Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford could play for Barcelona next season. Meanwhile, Rashford is still under contract with Manchester United until 2028.
