Ben Shelton’s girlfriend is an athlete too, and she has a really famous dad that not many people knew about.
Ben Shelton pulled off an amazing win against Carlos Alcaraz early Wednesday morning to make it to the US Open semi-finals.
Before this tournament, Shelton had never beaten a top-three player in 17 tries, but he broke that streak with an exciting five-set victory, stopping Alcaraz from defending his US Open title.
This big win for the American sets up an exciting semi-final match against Frances Tiafoe, who came back from two sets down to beat Alex Michelsen on Tuesday.
Shelton’s great performance tied his best Grand Slam result—he also reached the US Open semi-finals in 2023 and the Australian Open semi-finals in 2025. Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner were the players who ended his runs in those tournaments. Now, at 23 years old, he has a real shot to win his first Grand Slam.
He could even become the first American to win the US Open since Andy Roddick did in 2003.
Off the court, Shelton has been in a well-known relationship with soccer star Trinity Rodman since March 2025. Rodman plays forward for the Washington Spirit and signed a new three-year deal in January, making her the highest-paid female soccer player in the world, according to her agent.
She’s also played 57 times for the US Women’s National Team and scored 13 goals. But her story isn’t just about sports—her family history is well-known too, especially her dad, NBA legend Dennis Rodman.
In December 2024, Trinity talked about her childhood on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, saying Dennis was “not a dad” to her, except for being her father by blood. She shared how his partying lifestyle made things tough for her and her older brother DJ, who now plays in the NBA G League.
Her mom, Michelle Moyer, divorced Dennis in 2012 and worked hard to protect the kids from the struggles they faced, including times when money was very tight and they lived in a motel.
After the podcast, Dennis responded on Instagram, apologizing for not being the dad she wanted and saying he would keep trying to be there for his kids. He wrote, “I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time. I’m always here… Hopefully one day I can get that.”
As of September 2026, Trinity and Dennis are still estranged and don’t talk much.
