Betting on Marcus Rashford to join Arsenal has been paused due to a ‘surprise’ situation.
Bookmaker William Hill has stopped taking bets on Marcus Rashford moving to Arsenal before the transfer window closes. Rashford came back to Manchester United this pre-season after Barcelona chose not to buy him following his loan last season. The 28-year-old was given the number nine shirt by coach Michael Carrick and played as a substitute in their 2-0 loss to Hull City on Saturday.
Lately, it seemed likely Rashford would stay at United this summer. But a report from The Independent’s Miguel Delaney on Friday shared that some sources think Arsenal might try to sign Rashford on a temporary deal after letting Gabriel Martinelli leave for Al Hilal. The report also mentioned surprise inside the club because Martinelli was allowed to go without a replacement signed.
After these reports, William Hill closed their betting market on Rashford’s next club due to a lot of bets being placed on a move to Arsenal. Spokesperson Lee Phelps said, “We had to shut down bets on Rashford moving to the Premier League champions Arsenal because many punters think Mikel Arteta will bring him in to replace Martinelli.”
It’s important to know that closing the betting market doesn’t mean the transfer will happen or is even likely. Betting odds change based on the amount of money bet, so heavy betting on Rashford to join Arsenal can lead to suspension of bets.
Arsenal’s main target to strengthen their attack is Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, but the Argentine prefers Barcelona. Everyone knows how much we love Gabi. Whatever happens will be a mutual decision. These talks go both ways and have been good. Sometimes tough conversations have to happen, but I’m happy with what’s been said.”
