Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are chatting about a surprising mixed doubles team at the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner might team up for some surprise mixed doubles action at this year’s US Open. The world’s No.1 and No.2 in men’s singles are expected to join the mixed doubles event, which could make the tournament even more exciting.

What’s got everyone talking is who their partners might be. According to Sky Italia journalist Angelo Mangiante, Alcaraz could play alongside Serena Williams, while Sinner might team up with Venus Williams. That would be amazing, considering Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and Venus has seven.

Alcaraz has already won two Grand Slam singles titles at the US Open, but he’s never taken home a doubles trophy. His best doubles run was reaching the quarter-finals at the 2024 Olympics. Last year, he didn’t get far in doubles at the US Open when he played with Emma Raducanu.

Serena has a fantastic US Open history, winning six singles titles there. She also won women’s doubles with Venus twice, in 1999 and 2009, and mixed doubles in 1998. Venus herself is a two-time US Open singles champ and has won two doubles titles with Serena, but she’s never claimed the mixed doubles crown.

Sinner won the US Open singles title in 2024 but hasn’t played Grand Slam doubles before. This could be a fun new challenge for him.

Last year, the US Open changed the mixed doubles format, holding the event the week before the main singles tournament. This shorter schedule gives top players a chance to get ready for singles while enjoying doubles too.

This year, the mixed doubles will happen during Fan Week, finishing in just three days. Qualifying starts on August 24, with the first rounds on August 25, and the semis and final on August 26. The main tournament runs from August 31 to September 13.

There’s still some uncertainty, though. Alcaraz hasn’t played since pulling out of a match in Barcelona two months ago, so we don’t know if he’ll be ready. Sinner has already said he won’t defend his French Open title and also skipped Wimbledon.

Serena surprised fans by playing doubles at Queen’s Club recently—her first match since the 2022 US Open—and she’s set to play at the Berlin Open next week. What she plans after that is still unclear.

If these matchups happen, the mixed doubles at the US Open could be one of the most exciting tennis events in years!
