Carlos Alcaraz gave the coolest answer when asked about how he’s recovering from his wrist injury.
Carlos Alcaraz is making good progress recovering from a wrist injury, but he gave a cool reply when asked about coming back. The Spanish player hurt his wrist in April, which made him pull out of the Barcelona Open and miss the French Open and Wimbledon.
Before this injury, the 23-year-old was in amazing shape. He had just completed a career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open at 22 and then showed top form again by winning the Qatar Open.
At the start of the year, Alcaraz was ranked world number two, just behind Jannik Sinner. But after Alexander Zverev reached his first Wimbledon final, Alcaraz slipped to number three.
Still, Carlos is ready to get back to his best when he returns around mid-August. He’s expected to play at the Cincinnati Open, where he won the Masters title in 2025 — a perfect way to prepare for the US Open.
Right now, though, people close to him say he’s “training at a low intensity” and hasn’t fully bounced back to hitting the ball freely during practice.
Although this update earlier in the week wasn’t very hopeful for Cincinnati, something he said recently has fans feeling excited again.
Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, talked about Alcaraz’s comeback plan on her tennis podcast.
“Word is he’s going to try and play in Cincinnati,” she said. “If that’s true, I don’t think he’d have gone back to Spain. He’s probably staying somewhere with hard courts to practice before the tournament. It will be a big relief for tennis fans everywhere to see him back.”
Stubbs also shared what Alcaraz replied to one of her Instagram messages at the end of June.
“He sometimes responds to my messages,” she said. “When I told him it was great to see him hitting balls again, he said, ‘Hopefully, soon I will be hitting it harder.’”
Wrist injuries happen a lot in tennis because of the repeated impact from hitting the ball so often. Alcaraz is known for his powerful shots and explosive forehands, which might have caused the injury. He first felt pain while returning a serve in April at the Barcelona Open.
He had to quit the tournament the next day, and the last three months have been tough to get through. But the world number three is clearly eager to step up his game once he’s back on court.
