Carlos Alcaraz shares fitness update before Wimbledon, with a possible return date suggested

Carlos Alcaraz is reportedly making good progress as he recovers from his injury, and things are looking positive. The 23-year-old hasn’t played in two months since he pulled out of his match against Tomáš Macháč at the Barcelona Open.

He was diagnosed with severe right-wrist tenosynovitis, which ended his clay court season early and kept him out of the entire grass court season too. The world No. 2 said he wouldn’t be able to defend his French Open title at Roland-Garros and has also pulled out of Wimbledon, where he was runner-up last year.

Earlier this week, Spain’s Davis Cup captain David Ferrer gave an update on Carlos, saying he wouldn’t be rushed back until he’s fully healed. “Everything is going well, and the important thing is that Carlos recovers 100%,” Ferrer told AS. “It’s an injury that needs time, and the good news is Carlos is mentally strong and getting great care.”

More good news came on Friday when Alcaraz shared a training video on social media showing him without the wrist brace he had been wearing since mid-April. In the clip, he’s running alongside his trainer Alberto Lledó during a workout.

Alcaraz hasn’t said yet when he’ll be back on court, but many believe he might return for the American hard-court season starting in early August. He has already withdrawn from Wimbledon, which runs until July 13.

His injury is one of the hottest topics in tennis right now, with lots of guesses about when he’ll play again. Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal said this week: “Carlos will come back strong because he’s too good not to.”

On the other hand, tennis great Andre Agassi wasn’t as hopeful. On the Big T podcast, he said it would help if Carlos or someone close to him clearly explained exactly what’s wrong, since right now everyone is just guessing.
