Chelsea are already planning to sign another Premier League star right after completing their big move for Morgan Rogers.
The England midfielder has joined Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa for a British record fee of £117 million, signing a six-year deal.
Chelsea beat Arsenal in the race for the 23-year-old, although Arsenal never made an official offer.
This fee is also a club record for Chelsea. They hope Rogers will build a strong partnership with his old Manchester City academy friend, Cole Palmer.
“I’ve known Cole since about 14, first in England teams and later at Man City,” Rogers said on Chelsea’s official site.
“We’ve talked about playing together for a while and always wanted to. Now it’s happening, and we’re both excited. He keeps calling and texting me, and I can’t wait. The best part is playing alongside a close friend every day.”
But Chelsea’s transfer plans don’t stop there.
According to BBC Sport, Chelsea had a £64 million offer turned down by Bournemouth for midfielder Alex Scott.
News of the bid came soon after Chelsea confirmed Rogers’ signing, showing the club wants to build a strong, young British midfield under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Scott, 22, is one of the Premier League’s top young talents, playing a key role as Bournemouth finished sixth last season and qualified for Europe for the first time.
He was close to making England’s World Cup squad but didn’t get selected. He did join the pre-tournament training camp and was on the bench for England’s 1-0 friendly win over New Zealand.
Scott has caught the eye of big clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool — who are led by his former Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola.
He’s reportedly turned down a new contract, with two years left on his current deal signed in 2023.
However, Bournemouth don’t want to sell Scott before their first European campaign. They’ve kept hold of their key players so far this window and told Chelsea that more offers wouldn’t be welcome. It’s unclear if Chelsea will try again.
It’s already been a busy transfer window for Chelsea, with Alonso working to reshape the squad for his first season as manager.
Five new players, including Rogers, have joined Stamford Bridge, though Emmanuel Emegha, Geovany Quenda, and Dastan Satpayev signed before Alonso arrived.
Reports say Chelsea might consider selling Dutch striker Emegha, whom they bought from Strasbourg for £22 million, even before he plays a competitive game.
Right-back Marco Palestra has also joined from Atalanta for £43 million.
On the other side, Marc Cucurella moved to Real Madrid for £47.5 million, Tyrique George joined Everton for £18 million, Andrey Santos went to Manchester United for £48 million, and Jesse Derry is on a season-long loan at Sporting Lisbon.
