Chelsea’s expensive Maxence Lacroix signing might lead to a major cleanup in their defense.
Chelsea is getting ready for a fresh start with their new manager, Xabi Alonso, and they’ve been busy in the transfer market. Maxence Lacroix has joined from Crystal Palace, but this move might lead to some changes in their defense.
Alonso will be happy to have Lacroix on board. The French defender showed great skills at Crystal Palace, and he could be a big help as Chelsea aims to win their first Premier League title since 2017.
However, with Lacroix’s arrival, Chelsea now have nine center backs, which is more than they really need unless there are lots of injuries. So, it looks like the club will try to clear out some players in this position before the new season starts, according to Football Insider.
Around five defenders might leave Stamford Bridge, including Trevoh Chalobah, who’s attracting interest from Como. If the clubs agree on a fee, Chalobah could be playing in Serie A next season. Wesley Fofana is another player who could be on his way out. He’s had a tough time getting into form due to injuries since moving from Leicester City, even though he showed promise when fit.
Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Mamadou Sarr are also likely to leave, as the new manager doesn’t see them as key players for Chelsea’s future. Alonso seems to prefer keeping Lacroix, Josh Acheampong, Axel Disasi, and Levi Colwill as his main center back options. But it’s possible that some of the players who might leave could stay if the club can’t complete deals this summer.
