Chris Eubank Jr is happy to move up to heavyweight if the Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury fight doesn’t happen.
Chris Eubank Jr has offered to step in if the Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight falls through. The huge fight in British boxing, set for December 11 at the Principality Stadium, was announced last week after long talks. But just a day later, news came out that the fight might not happen.
The main issue seems to be from Joshua’s side because of Dana White, the UFC and Zuffa Boxing boss, getting involved. Fury said he and his promoter Eddie Hearn feel like Joshua’s team is “trying to back out” of the fight.
Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine said that if Joshua pulls out, the top replacement to fight Fury is unbeaten cruiserweight champion David Benavidez. But it might still be a British showdown, because Eubank Jr said he’s ready to take the fight.
On Monday, Eubank posted a video showing he now weighs 206lbs and said, “If Fury vs AJ falls through… I’ll stop dieting, put the extra weight back on & step up. Let me know, boys @anthonyjoshua @Tyson_Fury.” Eubank hasn’t fought since losing to Conor Benn in November 2025 and has usually fought at middleweight or super middleweight (up to 168lbs). He’s never been a heavyweight before, but that’s his current weight class, and he’s talked about returning to the ring later this year, maybe in Lagos, Nigeria.
Fury took to Instagram to say that Joshua and Hearn are threatening to pull out, accusing them of “making up a million different things.” The Gypsy King called them “little cowards” and joked about Joshua being a “bodybuilding sausage.”
He said: “Breaking news, Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn are trying to pull out, saying they won’t fight—what cowards. It’s all about Eddie Hearn’s ego. They’re making excuses and saying, ‘We’re not fighting.’ AJ, get it together, you little coward.”
Fury added: “I’m coming back to the UK to beat you in front of my fans in Wales, you little nugget. You’ve got Turki Alalshikh looking for real fighters ready to go at a moment’s notice. I hope you’re happy, cowards. Eddie Hearn’s ego has cost us the biggest fight in boxing history. Clowns.”
If the fight really falls apart, a possible replacement could be a showdown between Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford. A press conference is planned for Wednesday, but for now, things are still up in the air.
