Former Manchester City defender Courtney Meppen-Walter has sadly passed away at the age of 32.
His former club Bury shared the news on social media, saying they are “deeply saddened” by his passing. The club added, “Our thoughts and condolences are with Courtney’s family and friends during this very hard time.”
No additional details about his death have been shared so far.
Several of Courtney’s old clubs have paid their respects. Nantwich Town, where he played in 2024, remembered him as a big-hearted and inspiring leader. Chairman Jon Gold said, “Courtney was a larger-than-life character with the biggest heart. He was loved by fans and teammates alike and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Though he faced tough times, the Courtney we knew was always full of positivity. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and all who knew him.”
Carlisle United, where he played between 2013 and 2015, also shared their sadness. “Everyone at Carlisle United is very sorry to hear this news. Our thoughts are with Courtney’s family and friends right now,” they said.
Jamie Vermiglio, chairman of Chorley FC, where Courtney played from 2018 to 2020, also offered his sympathy. “This news is heartbreaking and will affect many people. Our love and thoughts go out to Courtney’s family and friends during this tough time. Many of us considered Mepps a good friend. He kept in touch with teammates and was a much-loved part of the club’s family. Chorley FC sends our deepest condolences and love to his family. Rest in peace, Mepps.”
