Cristiano Ronaldo faces final decision after his disagreement with Jorge Jesus in Portugal, as an official statement is released.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received an official punishment after his surprising dispute with Portugal’s coach, Jorge Jesus. When Jesus decided to bench Ronaldo during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League win over Norway, Ronaldo got upset and left the national team camp. He then shared a long statement, about 1,740 words, where he criticized the “broken promises” made to him.

Ronaldo later said he wanted to come back to the Portugal team and was willing to accept a punishment to do so. Now, he knows what that punishment is. After saying Jesus broke a promise to let him play against Norway, Ronaldo left the training camp before the game with Denmark.

Even though Ronaldo apologized for his behavior, the Portuguese Football Federation started formal disciplinary action and suspended him until they decided on a final punishment. It’s now been announced that Ronaldo will be suspended for 30 days and fined €255 (£222).

Considering Ronaldo reportedly earns around £178 million a year at Al Nassr—which works out to about £3.42 million a week or £488,000 a day—the fine is unlikely to bother him much. This also shows that the federation isn’t holding a long-term grudge against him.

The official statement said: “The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation found the accusation fully justified and decided to suspend Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days and fine him €255 for the disciplinary breach he committed.”
