Doc Rivers Speaks Out About Renee Nicole Good’s Death and Calls Out Donald Trump
Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers seemed to speak out against President Donald Trump while talking about the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE officer.
Before his team’s game against the LA Lakers on January 9, Rivers shared his thoughts on the incident, saying, “everyone should speak up.”
Good, 37, was shot and killed in Minneapolis on January 7, sparking many protests. According to federal officials, Good tried to run over immigration agents with her car, but Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said the officer acted recklessly.
Video shows two ICE agents approaching Good’s car before it tries to drive away. One agent points a gun, and two shots are fired. An FBI investigation is still ongoing.
US Vice-President JD Vance shared a short clip online, saying the officer acted in self-defense. However, local officials disagree, saying Good wasn’t a threat.
President Trump’s administration called Good’s actions “domestic terrorism,” according to BBC News.
The shooting has caused protests around the country, with many people, including Doc Rivers, speaking out. When asked about athletes talking about political issues, Rivers said everyone should speak up if something is wrong.
He called the incident in Minnesota “murder” and said it was very sad that Good never made it home. Rivers also criticized ICE, calling its role in the country a “travesty” and accused officers of targeting people of color.
He seemed to criticize Trump too, saying the country is being led by a “bully” instead of a “role model.”
Rivers added, “When I was growing up, the president was always a role model. I worry about the effect of bullying and lying on our kids and what that means for our future.”
