Eddie Hearn answers Tyson Fury’s worries about Anthony Joshua pulling out, while big news about the event venue comes out
Eddie Hearn has shared his thoughts after Tyson Fury cast serious doubt on a big all-British heavyweight fight with Anthony Joshua, while there’s news about the fight at Wembley too.
Fury will fight 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in a non-televised match in Pattaya, Thailand, on Friday (July 24). Joshua will return to the ring after a tough time—he was involved in a tragic car accident last December that sadly took the lives of his friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua’s next fight is against Albania’s Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday (July 25).
These fights are warm-ups before a planned big showdown between Fury and Joshua later this year. Joshua seems focused on his upcoming fight and wants to face Fury after that. But Fury, who calls himself the Gypsy King, has thrown serious doubts on the fight happening.
On Sky Sports yesterday (July 23), Fury went on a rant about Joshua, saying he’s open to fighting “somebody else” instead of him. Fury said, “Let’s not make this about silly Mr Bodybuilder. I’m not interested in him or his friends. I don’t care if I ever see him again. If I do, great. If not, that’s fine. I’m just not interested.”
Meanwhile, Joshua said he’s pushing hard for the fight to be at Wembley and even joked about helping Fury “transform his body from a greedy belly into a bodybuilder.”
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing, has now spoken out after Fury’s comments, saying Joshua is more likely to stick to the fight plan. He also expressed doubts about Fury showing up.
“Look at the facts and history,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “Joshua has never pulled out of a fight he signed for. His record and attitude are the most professional I’ve seen. Can we say the same for Tyson Fury? No. If anyone might pull out, it’s not Joshua. AJ has fought every contender possible and even signed to fight Fury before, but Fury pulled out last time over a legal issue involving Deontay Wilder. So don’t worry about AJ—he’s ready. But we have questions about Fury, especially if AJ looks strong on Saturday.”
On another note, Sky Sports gave an update about the fight at Wembley Stadium. Brent Council said no one has asked them yet to extend the curfew that night, which would allow fights to happen as late as 2 am. Right now, the curfew is 11 pm.
