Eddie Howe talks openly about Arsenal’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes for the first time, saying an ‘agreement has been reached.’
Bruno Guimaraes has caught Arsenal’s attention this summer, and now Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, has finally talked about the possibility of their captain leaving.
Newcastle values Bruno at £100 million, but Arsenal is said to be willing to offer only £70 million for the Brazilian star. The Magpies have a strong history of holding on tight to their best players. Last summer, they sold Alexander Isak for £125 million after a long battle with Liverpool. This summer, they also earned big fees for Sandro Tonali (£100m), who went to Tottenham, and Anthony Gordon (£80m), who joined Barcelona.
Arsenal hopes to avoid a long transfer battle to sign Guimaraes like Liverpool faced last year. However, Eddie Howe’s recent words might make Arsenal fans a bit worried about that. In an interview with the Shields Gazette, Howe said, “We don’t want to lose our best players. That’s obvious. Losing those big two is tough for us. It’s been a challenging summer so far. We are always trying to do our best for the club, now and in the future, to shape the squad well. I’ve spoken to Bruno a lot. He’s a great guy. We’ve had good talks before, during, and after the World Cup. What we discuss stays private. He’s a wonderful player and person.”
Right now, Guimaraes is enjoying a holiday after playing in the World Cup with Brazil, and Howe expects him back for training at the end of July.
