Emma Raducanu scores big payday even after confirming she won’t play at Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu has sadly pulled out of Wimbledon, even though she announced earlier that she would play. Wimbledon 2026 is just around the corner, with many top tennis stars arriving in London for the first matches on Monday. Several British players like Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper, and Katie Boulter are ready to take part.

Before her first match against Croatia’s Antonia Ružić, Emma was spotted training with a strap on her lower leg, dealing with a fresh injury. Despite this, after training on Sunday, the 23-year-old said she was ready to take a risk and play at Wimbledon against medical advice. “There are some tournaments you’re willing to try harder for, to take more risks. For me, Wimbledon is definitely one of those,” Emma said.

But just a few hours later, Emma shared that she has to withdraw because of a stress fracture. She posted, “Hi everyone, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I have to pull out of Wimbledon this year. I tried everything to be ready for tomorrow, but after a final scan, the niggle turned into a stress fracture, and doctors told me to stop pushing. Playing at Wimbledon in front of my home crowd means so much to me, so this is really hard to accept. Thank you all for your support—it means the world right now. I look forward to coming back soon.”

This injury is another tough setback for Emma, who has had a rough year with a foot injury before the season, illness during the Transylvania Open, and challenges in tournaments in the Middle East and Indian Wells.

Even though this is bad news, Emma won’t go home empty-handed. Wimbledon’s rules say players who can’t compete still get half the prize money they would have earned in the first round. Since players earn £80,000 in the first round, Emma will still receive £40,000 despite not playing.
