England star shares Harry Kane’s World Cup music pick as early curfew ends the night early
England captain Harry Kane is a big fan of country music, and he’s happy to show it, says another senior player on England’s World Cup team. Kane scored England’s first two goals in the 2026 World Cup match against Croatia, helping the Three Lions win 4-2 against a familiar rival. This win put England at the top of Group L, and they got a day off on Friday as a reward.
Leading the team, Kane took a couple of teammates on a short 20-minute trip from their base in Kansas City to the nearby city of Independence, where American country singer Ella Langley was playing at the Cable Dahmer Arena. Dan Burn and goalkeeper Jason Steele joined Kane at the show.
“Harry really loves country music,” said Dan Burn, the Newcastle defender, in a BBC Sport interview. “There’s a record player at the hotel, and when it’s the captain’s turn to pick the music, it’s mostly country.”
Enjoying local music and events during the World Cup is a newer experience for England’s squads. In the past, teams were often kept away from the media and the outside world, which caused frustration and boredom—a problem managers now know can hurt performance. Because the World Cup is a long, two-month event, keeping the players isolated is neither easy nor helpful.
So, these days, the England players happily took the chance to enjoy some country music. Burn, who didn’t play in the first Group L match in Texas, joked that he was the only one dressed like a true cowboy, complete with hat and jeans. “Harry and Steeley met Ella before the show, but I arrived a bit late,” he said. “We missed the last three songs because we had to get back for curfew. I was a bit disappointed since those were her best songs.”
England’s next Group L game is in Foxborough, near Boston, where they will face Ghana at Gillette Stadium. A win there would secure their place in the round of 32. Meanwhile, Scotland fans have been warmly welcomed in Boston, making their mark on the city and its venues. After playing two games in Foxborough, Scotland travels to Miami to face Brazil. England will take on Panama at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 27.
