Erling Haaland could make a surprising move, as news about Arsenal’s funds pops up after details about his Man City contract get ‘leaked.’

Arsenal are said to have the money to make a big offer for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, but a top European club is also interested. On September 25, it was reported that Manchester City was found guilty of serious financial rule breaches by the Premier League for the years 2009 to 2018 after an independent commission’s decision.

City has appealed this ruling. If the guilty verdict stays, the club could face tough punishments like points being taken away, moving down to a lower league, or even being kicked out of the Premier League.

This situation puts players like Haaland in a tricky spot. The Norwegian star is under contract until 2034 and reportedly makes about £500,000 a week. It’s hard to imagine him or many of his teammates wanting to stay if City gets relegated. TEAMtalk says Arsenal, the current Premier League winners, are thinking about trying to sign Haaland.

TEAMtalk also says Arsenal have the funds but face competition from Barcelona, who also need a main striker despite Raphinha doing well in that role recently. Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey told their podcast: “Even if City gets relegated, Haaland and his team were looking at leaving around 2027 since it fits well between international tournaments.

An Arsenal insider said that if a player like Haaland becomes available, Arsenal, being a top European club, would definitely be interested. They’ve been trying to sign strikers all summer, so they seem ready to spend. But my understanding is Haaland prefers to move to Spain, mainly to Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

Paris Saint-Germain has also been mentioned as a possible destination for Haaland.

Most reports say Haaland and other City players don’t have a clause to leave if the club gets relegated. However, lawyer Paul Gilroy suggested they might be able to end their contracts if they can prove the club lied about the financial troubles. On “Stick to Football,” Gilroy explained that all jobs, including football, require trust between employer and employee. If that trust is broken—like being called a liar—it could allow players to cancel their contracts.

Gilroy said, “It’s possible though complicated. It depends on how the club and players handle the situation financially and legally. But it’s something that could happen.”

As mentioned, City confirmed they officially appealed the decision on October 1, 2026, saying the ruling has serious mistakes and that the club is innocent. They stated they have strong evidence to support their case and will respect the legal process while it continues.

City denies any wrongdoing and says they have clear proof backing their innocence.
