F1 boss announces big change that fans have been hoping for years

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has exciting news for Formula One fans: V8 engines will be coming back in the future! The new rules for the 2026 season haven’t been very popular—many drivers aren’t happy with the big changes to batteries and power units, and fans feel the sport isn’t as fun to watch anymore.

But Ben Sulayem has confirmed that by 2031 at the latest, the simpler and more powerful V8 engines will return. He said the V8 is “coming,” and if it doesn’t happen earlier, the FIA will be able to make the change without needing a big vote from the Power Unit Manufacturers.

Speaking from the Miami Grand Prix, he explained, “It’s just a matter of time. By 2031, the FIA can bring back the V8 without any votes from the manufacturers. We’re actually hoping to do it as soon as 2030 because that’s what everyone wants.”

He added, “The new engines will be simpler, lighter, and have that great V8 sound, with just a little bit of electrification. I’m confident it will happen soon. If the manufacturers don’t agree for 2030, it will definitely happen in 2031.”

Right now, the cars use V6 hybrid engines that split power between electricity and combustion, but many drivers have raised concerns about safety and performance. The rules were even changed at the Miami GP after a break caused by cancellations due to conflicts in the Middle East.

Fans can look forward to a return to the exciting roar of V8 engines, bringing back some of the classic F1 spirit!
