Fan videos show Arsenal fans shouting harsh chants at Morgan Rogers after his clash with Declan Rice.
Lots of Arsenal fans sang a cheeky eight-word chant about Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea right after he had a heated moment with Declan Rice.
Rogers got really annoyed with his England teammate on Sunday after Rice tripped him while he was heading towards the Arsenal goal. Shortly after, Rogers pointed at Rice and gave him a little shove. They exchanged angry words before their teammates stepped in to separate them.
Rogers actually scored first for Chelsea, but Arsenal came back with goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard to win 2-1. Rogers picked up a yellow card because of his reaction to the challenge.
When he was substituted for Danny Welbeck near the end, Rogers had to walk past thousands of unhappy Arsenal fans at the Emirates. As he passed by, they shouted, “You should have signed for a big club.” You can see Rogers smiling at the chant in the video. Arsenal had been linked with him all summer, but in the end, the 24-year-old chose Chelsea in a record £117 million deal.
About the clash with Rice, Rogers got booked, but many, including Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville, thought it was unfair. Neville said Rogers was right to push back because Rice tripped him and the referee missed it. Former referee Mark Halsey agreed, saying the foul was missed and only deserved a yellow card, which VAR wouldn’t change.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta annoyed fans with his behavior on the sidelines during the win over Chelsea. He went outside his technical area multiple times, even though new rules say only one person can stand at the front of the technical area. Other managers have been booked for this, but Arteta wasn’t punished on Sunday.
