Former WWE world champion’s eye started leaking during a tough Power Slap loss, and the crowd felt really uneasy about it.
Former WWE champion Jake Hager got a nasty eye injury during his latest Power Slap match, which made fans cringe in shock.
Hager was one of several men competing at a Power Slap event in Texas on September 17. Early in the show, he faced Johnny Magna. Like all Power Slap matches, Hager and Magna took turns slapping each other as hard as they could in the face. Unfortunately, Hager ended up with a bad injury that caused blood to leak from his left eye.
Hager is well known from his wrestling days, where he spent over ten years with WWE under the name Jack Swagger. After signing in 2006, his best time was when he won the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 26 and cashed it in five days later to beat Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship. In 2012, he also won the United States Championship by beating Zack Ryder. He eventually asked to leave WWE after contract talks didn’t go well, and he officially left in March 2017.
Earlier this year, Hager surprised many by signing a deal to appear six times for Power Slap. He started strong with a third-round knockout win over Devin Jenkins at Power Slap 19 in April. But his second match didn’t go his way, as he was knocked out by Amanpreet Singh at Power Slap 21 in July.
Now, his third fight ended even worse when he got a serious injury after a huge slap in the second round. The injury was so bad that doctors had to stop the match.
Right after Magna’s slap hit, Hager was clearly in pain, holding his eye and saying, “He hit me right in the eye.” When the cameras zoomed in, you could see blood leaking from his eye, showing the injury was worse than expected. The match ended there, with Magna named the winner.
After his knockout loss in July, Hager had a 45-day medical suspension to help him recover from the hits. Since this latest injury looks much more serious, it’s likely he will need a longer break before coming back to Power Slap. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if he decides not to return at all. Eye injuries can be very serious, as we’ve seen with others like former UFC heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall, who faced big challenges both in his career and life after a similar injury.
