FPL managers face a surprising choice before GW3 as important info comes out
Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are making a big mistake that might cause problems before Gameweek 3. After just two weeks of action, players are figuring out which stars are worth having and many have already used their first chip.
Some managers tried using the bench boost in Gameweek 1 or 2, building their teams around that plan with mixed results. Others got unlucky by leaving budget-friendly players like Brentford’s Mamadou Sangare (who scored 14 points in Gameweek 1) and Pascal Gross (13 points in Gameweek 2) on the bench without using the chip.
Now, heading into Gameweek 3, lots of managers are going bold by playing their wildcard. This lets them make unlimited changes without losing points, and the new team will stay for future games. With the summer transfer window closing, it’s a perfect time to use the wildcard and pick players with good upcoming matches like Manchester City, who play Coventry at home.
Some didn’t start with Erling Haaland but can’t resist adding him now, especially after his 13-point game against Crystal Palace. Many wildcard users are also choosing two more City players to boost their team for the easy runs against Coventry, Sunderland, and Ipswich.
It’s also a great chance to triple captain Haaland against one of the league’s weakest defenses, with millions expected to use the chip this weekend. But managers using the wildcard in Gameweek 3 can’t use another chip, and missing one key player here is a big mistake.
Besides City stars, many are also picking Chelsea players for Gameweek 4. After a tough game at Arsenal, Chelsea face easier teams like Hull, Brentford, Bournemouth, and Everton. Players like Cole Palmer (£9.6m), Morgan Rogers (£7.5m), and Joao Pedro (£7.7m) look exciting, having performed well in the first two games.
Palmer scored and assisted in victories over Fulham and Brighton, showing signs of his great form. Pedro and Rogers have also contributed six goal involvements between them. But to afford all three, many managers are dropping Bruno Fernandes, and that’s a big risk.
Fernandes had an amazing 23-point haul with a hat-trick and an assist in Man United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich. Millions rewarded those who captained him for 46 points! It’s hard to believe some are considering transferring him out before his next match against Everton, a team he usually excels against.
Managers dropping Fernandes to fit Palmer are hoping the Chelsea player will score more, while saving £2.4m. But last season, Fernandes proved why he’s one of the most reliable premium players, consistently delivering goals, assists, penalties, and bonus points.
Some managers are trying to fit Fernandes, Palmer, and Haaland into one team, but this weakens other areas and probably isn’t a good long-term plan. So, think carefully before making big changes!
