Gianni Infantino responds to World Cup criticism with a strong message about ‘spreading hate.’
FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently responded to his critics, saying they are “spreading hate” about the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On Sunday, July 26, Infantino posted a message on Instagram defending FIFA against the negative comments. In a 15-slide post, he said some people are “filled with hate” and spreading false information, while FIFA is working hard to deliver the best World Cup ever.
Despite facing criticism for issues like Folarin Balogun’s suspended one-match ban, the treatment of the Iranian team, hydration breaks, his ties to Donald Trump, and expanding the tournament to 48 teams, Infantino highlighted that the event brought “no violence, no incidents,” only joy and happiness.
He thanked the governments of the US, Mexico, and Canada for hosting and told critics to “meditate, pray, or watch a football match” instead of spreading hate.
Although some fans had visa problems and a FIFA referee was denied entry, Infantino pointed out that countries with serious health concerns were given visas, and most people were allowed in. He said critics often ignore the millions who were approved.
Talking about refereeing decisions, likely referring to the Balogun case, Infantino said mistakes happen everywhere and are common even in top leagues worldwide. He called it normal to have some confusing or unpopular calls.
He ended by saying he is very proud to be FIFA president and to have helped put on an amazing World Cup.
However, the criticism is far from over. The Norwegian Football Association plans to file a complaint against FIFA’s handling of Trump’s involvement in the Balogun case. UEFA also said FIFA went “too far” and called the decision unfair and hard to understand.
Fans are also watching the FIFA probe into Argentina’s players after the World Cup final, especially after a leaked letter showed Infantino praising the Argentine team’s professionalism.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the host countries’ governments, police, volunteers, and the FIFA team.
While fans celebrated around the world, some chose to sow hate instead.
Our world needs more love, tolerance, and celebration—not hate.
