Hansi Flick had a hard day and almost cried in a heartfelt interview after Barcelona won the La Liga title.
Barcelona’s manager, Hansi Flick, got quite emotional during an interview after his team’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid, which secured the La Liga title.
The 61-year-old was in charge of this big game just hours after he learned that his father had passed away. Before the match, there was a minute of silence, and both teams wore black armbands to honor his father.
Earlier that day, Barcelona shared a message saying, “FC Barcelona and the whole blaugrana family send all our love to Hansi Flick after the loss of his father. We’re thinking of you and your family during this tough time.”
Despite his sadness, Flick wanted to be there with the team. He watched proudly as Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres scored goals to clinch the win and the title.
It was an emotional day for Flick, leading Barcelona through such an important game while mourning. After the match, he fought back tears as he talked about both the team’s great achievement and his personal loss.
“This morning, my mom told me my father had passed,” Flick shared. “I wondered if I should keep it to myself or tell the team. They are like family to me, so I shared it. What they did today was amazing. I will never forget this moment.”
He added, “Today was really hard for me. Losing my father is tough. But my team here is incredible — I really love them. They gave everything, and I’m so proud of our fans. The atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic, especially in this big match against Real Madrid. We played well, and now it’s time to celebrate.”
Marcus Rashford, who is on loan from Manchester United, made sure to praise Flick after the win. He said the team wanted to give their all to support their manager during such a difficult time.
“He showed great strength by staying with the team in a tough moment,” Rashford told BBC Sport. “It was important for us to give 100% because he has to make hard decisions every day. I wish him and his family all the best.”
