Hansi Flick shares his thoughts on Lamine Yamal waving the Palestine flag at Barcelona’s title parade – saying, ‘It’s not something I like.’

Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, recently shared his thoughts after Lamine Yamal was seen waving a Palestinian flag during the team’s La Liga title parade on Monday, May 11.

Barcelona secured their third league title in four years on Sunday, May 10, with a 2–0 win over rivals Real Madrid, thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres. Although Yamal is currently out injured with a hamstring problem, he was at Camp Nou watching the game alongside other sidelined players like Raphinha.

The next day, Yamal joined the team on their parade bus to celebrate the title with fans in Barcelona. During the celebrations, he was spotted waving a Palestinian flag and later shared photos of himself holding it on Instagram, showing his support for Palestine. This came amid ongoing conflicts that only recently led to a ceasefire.

When asked about Yamal’s actions on Tuesday, May 12, Flick said, “This isn’t something I usually like. I talked to him and told him if he wants to do this, it’s his choice. He’s 18 and old enough to decide.”

Yamal is among several athletes who have expressed support for Palestine, including football stars Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah, and NBA player Kyrie Irving.

Flick then shifted focus to the last three La Liga matches, where Barcelona will play Alavés, Betis, and Valencia. He stressed the team’s goal of reaching 100 points this season.

“We want to hit 100 points, so we need to win all three of our remaining games,” Flick said. Barcelona currently has 91 points from 35 matches.

He also touched on his future at the club, hinting that he plans to stay on until at least 2028.

“I’ve been busy the past few days, but I’m very happy and confident to keep working for another year or two,” Flick said. “Many coaches would be happy signing a three- or four-year deal. For Barça, it’s better to keep it limited. We’ll continue until 2028, and if all goes well, we might decide to stay longer.”
